On January 1, 2006 we began providing services from our new Public Safety Department that consists of the existing Fire Department, Animal Welfare Services, Code Enforcement and the creation of a new Police Department.
Washington City embraced the concept of a Public Safety Department as a means to improve upon the life-safety measures that are provided to the community by taking advantage of shared skills and services within each of the four departments, thus creating a cohesive public safety team working more efficiently for the betterment of the community. Our entire department operates with the philosophy of “Community Oriented Policing”. We are committed to engaging the community in many different ways. Our community meetings are very important to our department and we look forward to getting increased support from our community members. If you are interested in becoming involved, you may contact our office at 986-1515.
The Police Department currently has 16 sworn officers and 2 civilian staff. Washington City’s current population is approximately 20,000, which is spread over approximately 32 square miles.
The Mission Statement for the Washington City Police Department is foremost in the minds of our officers: “To Protect and Serve those who reside in, or visit Washington City. Provide Professional and Ethical Law Enforcement, Public Safety, and Traffic Services. We are Committed to Engage the Community and Function as a “Team”, to achieve our Mission through Integrity, Honesty, and Enthusiasm while Encouraging Innovation and Productivity”. Our motto is proudly displayed on the fleet vehicles: “Serve with Honor and Respect”.
We feel fortunate to have the unwavering support of our entire Team, including Washington City Mayor, Ken Neilson; City Manager, Roger Carter; and the City Council members. Our success as a department is dependent on the support of our entire TEAM and the involvement of our community members. We are excited about the growth we are continuing to experience and we look forward to providing professional quality police services to the community for many years to come.
