Blazing Freedom Unveiled

On Veterans Day, November 11, 2020, Blazing Freedom was introduced and unveiled on the corner of Telegraph Street and 100 East, at Veterans Memorial Park. The Bison was commissioned by Washington City, in support of Dixie State University, as a way to visibly honor and remember Veterans. Blazing Freedom was a collaborative effort, with special thanks to the artist Jodi Gerber, and to the designer Kelli Charlton. While much of the artwork is from World War II to the current era, it is intended to represent all who have defended freedom, and all who currently, or will in the future, preserve and defend our freedom. It is a tribute to the men and women who served and sacrificed, and to their families and loved ones who served and sacrificed as well. It could be said that Blazing Freedom tells every soldier’s story, and their part in America’s story of freedom. When you see this Bison let the artwork remind you of someone you know, or know of, who served in the military, and their impact on your life. Then when you see this Bison:

•Let the artwork remind you of that person and countless other soldiers.

•Let this place remind you of their courage.

•Let Blazing Freedom memorialize these soldiers, and these patriots in your heart.

•Let this spot cause you to pause and consider what it means to be free.

•Let this monument inspire you to live up to the opportunities afforded you as a result of them.

•Let it remind YOU that THEY gave their all for US.

To our Veterans - This is our way of remembering and recognizing you. This is our way to thank you.

To each of us - Let us NEVER forget!
