Backup Generators

Backup Generators are becoming more common in our city. Here are some need to know tips if you are planning to put in a backup generator:

  1. Must obtain a building permit through the city.
  2. There must be a manual or automatic transfer switch with an open transition between the normal feed and the generator so that the service and the alternate source of power cannot operate simultaneously. This protects the electricians and lineman from being shocked.
  3. Signage is required to identify the alternate source of power.
  4. Proper grounding and/or bonding must be provided.

If you have further questions you can contact the Building Department at (435) 656-6326.
