Gardening Tips
by Marilyn Wallis
Nothing adds sparkle to a landscape like brightly colored flowers. They are the perfect accent to background plantings of trees, shrubs or lawn. They also add definition to the landscape in mass planting. Once they are planted they continually bloom throughout the summer with just a little soil preparation, maintenance and fertilizer. Here are some varieties that do well in specific areas:
SUN: Geranium, Marigold, Petunia, Nicotiana, Zinnia, Alyssum, Dahlia, Verbena
HOT/DRY AREAS: Portulaca, Gazania, Corn Flower, Calendula, Vinca, Kochia, Nasturtium, California Poppy.
SHADE: Begonia, Impatient, Lobelia, Primula, Myosotis, Coleus
PARTIAL SHADE: Impatient, Lobelia, Ageratum, Salvia, Pansy.
