Mayor’s Message

None of Us Really Know How Strong We Are

Doesn’t it seem like the hotter weather has come upon us too soon? May I remind you that this summer looks like it is predicted to be a hotter and drier one. Please use your water wisely, conserve where you can, and run those sprinklers a little less often. Also, if you are curious about your power rate. Go to the WashingtonCity.org website and click on “Power”. You will be able to calculate your rates and compare with other power companies in the area. I had a fantastic visit with a great friend who has recently had some pretty serious trials. As we visited, it was very apparent that he had weathered those trials very well. It reminded me of a quote by Helen Keller that states, “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” Kudos to my friend and to all of you that go through trials with courage and optimism. That things will work out and get better. None of us really know how strong we are until we are forced to bring that hidden strength forward. In times of tragedy, of sorrow of war, of necessity, people do amazing things. The human capacity for survival and renewal is awesome. You know, kites fly higher against the wind, not with it...........
