City Spotlights

Be grateful for the system of government the gives us the right to choose

Like political rings on a tree, every two years brings the potential of a changeover in our communities elected officials. Local government campaigns can be some of the most spirited competitions there are. This full-blown contact sport of elections may seem never-ending and exhausting, but when it is all done, we can be grateful for this system of government that gives us the right to choose. And, the great things about local politics is that all of these individuals competing for these positions are, first and foremost citizens, friends, and neighbors. I have had the privilege over the years of working with many of our citizens, as they have served on the city council. I can, without hesitation, say that every one of them did it because of their love for the community and their desire to serve. So, as the turning of the year occurs, we say goodbye to some wonderful civic leaders and welcome some new ones. We can express appreciation and look upon those who have served us with fondness and welcome and offer our support to those who are arriving. When you think about it, it is a pretty great system.
