Emergency Preparedness

According to Do1Thing.com, the goal for March is: Know how to safely take shelter in your home or be prepared to evacuate to a temporary shelter. Some of the reasons we need to designate a safe space inside our houses are; weather events, such as tornado or severe storms, a chemical spill or criminal activity in the area. A safe space in your home would ideally be centrally located with enough room for all family members to stay comfortably for at least 1 hour.  In a severe weather event, a room with no windows is best. In case of a chemical spill, doors and windows would need to be sealed and the air conditioning system shut off to prevent chemicals from coming into your house. If criminal activity is happening in your neighborhood secure all doors and windows until law enforcement deems the area safe. If you and your family are asked to evacuate to a community shelter you will need to bring your own bedding, personal identification, a list of medications and physicians, and a change of clothes. Please refer to Do1Thing.com for more information. Be prepared and stay safe.
