IT Support Technician I

Performs a variety of Support and Maintenance Duties related to Information Technology Equipment, Software, and Network Technologies.
Works under the supervision of the Information Services Director.
Acts as primary contact for Information Technology support. Documents and escalates technology work requests.
Install and configure hardware and software components.
Provides city-wide end-user support on computer desktop operation, including applications, networking, and settings. Assists in the customization of computer equipment to meet user requirements.
Performs hardware maintenance on IT equipment including repair.
Coordinates the use of external vendors to provide warranty maintenance and repair.
Assists in the support and maintenance of the city’s Local Area Networks, Server Systems, Website, Phone System, Database Applications, and GIS.
Performs a variety of reporting and tracking duties.
Performs other duties as required.
1. Education and Experience:
A. Graduation from college with an Associates degree in computer science or, electronics, systems analysis or related field; OR Certificate from trade school/technical college program along with A+ and Network+ Certification.
B. Three (3) years of responsible experience performing above and related duties; specific experience in the management and support of IT systems, or electronic control systems is preferred;
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of computer and networking hardware and software, Windows, MacOS, Google Workspace, TCP/IP, network topologies, database concepts, and server operating systems. Must have Typing skills and the ability to operate specialized tools. Must possess a methodical and disciplined approach to problem solving. Desirable skills include Linux and Cloud Systems knowledge. Communication skills are highly regarded in this role.
Ability to manage complex computer system operations; read and understand computer specifications; recognize and solve problems related to data entry and retrieval; communicate technical information effectively, verbally and in writing; perform mechanical duties related to installation of terminals, printers, hardware and related items; develop effective working relationships with supervisors, elected officials, subordinates and fellow employees.

Tasks require a variety of physical activities, periodically involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching. Talking, hearing and seeing essential to performance of essential duties. Muscular strength of arms, hands, back and legs necessary in lifting boxes of print materials, computer components, and relocating terminal cables. Duties generally performed indoors under controlled climatic conditions. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability and discriminating thinking. Mental application requires emotional stability in dealing with time deadlines and stresses of emergency response needs.
