GENERAL PURPOSE

Oversees a variety of professional assignments involving events and public relations in line with the vision (Improving Life through Recreation) and Values (Create Opportunity, Discover Passion, Seek Balance, and Embrace Unity) of the Washington City Community Center.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the direction and supervision of the Programs Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coordinates all public relations and advertising for the Washington City Community Center (WCCC) and events.

Assists with Community Center membership promotions, events & programming needs.

Schedules social media posts and responds promptly to comments by monitoring all sites on a daily basis along with the Media Productions Coordinator.

Coordinates weekly marketing efforts for the WCCC (facility closures, swim meets, events, tournaments, email blasts, text Blasts, etc).

Attends monthly marketing and media meetings and attends department staff meetings/event committees as needed to discuss goals and objectives for each area within the WCCC including: recreation, preschool, fitness, day care, aquatics, programs, events, rentals and sponsorships.

Weekly calendaring for the city website, event sites and posting on other local websites promoting city events.

Tracks all facility coupons, certificates and promotions for measuring effective ROI.

Uses creative writing for all radio advertisements, press releases, email content, school flyers, etc.

Orders banners, updates the city bulletin board.

Meets with various businesses on a quarterly basis and coordinates all graphic design work with advertising vendors and City Media Productions Coordinator.

Makes recommendations and reviews marketing budget items related to acquisition media. Responsible for balancing the marketing budget and submits all invoices to accounts payable for payment.

Tracks all sponsorship and banners within the Community Center and ball fields. Hangs and removes banners as needed.

Assists with all community center and city events.

Performs all other duties as assigned and serves as an Assistant to the Programs Manager

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

1.        Education and Experience:

        A.        Graduation from high school, plus one (1-2) years of specialized training in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Graphic Communications, Recreation, Speech, Broadcasting Programs or other related field;

AND

        B.        Two (2) years of verifiable experience of field production work specifically in professional Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Recreation, Design

OR

        C.        An equivalent combination of education and experience.

2.        Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors, sponsors, volunteers, and the public. Must be outgoing and have a fun personality to be able to sell City Sponsorships, Event/marketing packages and network with local chambers and various businesses to help promote the Washington City Community Center. Direct, motivate, develop, and evaluate subordinates. Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

3.        Special Qualifications:

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

 

4.        Considerable knowledge of current developments in the field of marketing communications. Knowledge of: marketing, communications, public relations and/or media production principles and techniques; Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing with supervisors, co-workers, other departmental personnel, members of the public and other users of the service; communicate with the public by utilizing various media vehicles to reach all segments of the public and educate in city programming/recreation. Must be able to deal courteously and effectively with co-workers in a collaborative process and be a team player. Working knowledge of personal computers and various software applications such as Google Drive, Google Docs, Gmail and Google calendar. Preferred knowledge with apple software: numbers, keynote, pages, photo editing, illustration, etc.

5.        Work Environment:

Must be able to work flexible schedule for various events and expos held throughout the year on weekends and holidays. Incumbent of the position performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls.  Tasks require a variety of physical activities, not generally involving muscular strain related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, etc.  Communicating, i.e. talking, hearing, and seeing, is essential to job effectiveness.  Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity exist.  Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Periodic travel required in normal course of job performance.
