Power Customer Service Rep

Closing Date: upon hire

Wage: $10.00 - $13.00 Hourly DOE


Performs a variety of routine administrative and clerical duties as needed to expedite service to customers for the power department. Direct involvement with the public in the implementation of customer service programs and practices. Develops promotional marketing and public relations material for the department. Acts as front line customer service representative. Follows established processes and procedures.


Works under the general supervision of the Power Director.




Performs a range of secretarial support as needed to provide clerical support to department and division heads; acts as receptionist; answers phone and routes calls; takes and relays messages; provides information to inquiring parties; creates documents, letters, reports, memos, or other general correspondence; assists public.

Composes routine letters and informative notices; maintains various program, activity and service files, schedules appointments for meetings.

Assists the department head to gather work hours and related information needed to submit to payroll; prepares time sheets; maintains other personnel records including leave accrual and use histories.

Delivers information as requested, prepares summaries and reports.

Receives calls and complaints from the public; types reports, distributes copies of reports to appropriate individuals and offices. Works with the public to resolve public relation issues.

Operates personal computers to enter and retrieve department data, generate reports, create spreadsheet documents.

Receives and processes purchase order requests from authorized department personnel; monitors status of purchase orders; examines materials and packing statements to assure proper receipt of items.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience:

1. Education and Experience:

A. Graduation from high school with course background in general office practice and procedures; plus one (1) year of specialized training related to above duties;


B. Two (2) years of responsible experience performing above or related duties;


C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; of grammar, spelling and punctuation; of modern filing systems related to alphabetical and numeric files; personal computer operations; telephone etiquette, various office machines, i.e. ten-key, copy machine, fax, etc. Some knowledgeof administrative procedures; of legal processes associated with the maintenance of public records and documents; interpersonal communication skills.

Ability toexercise initiative, independent judgment and to act resourcefully under varying conditions; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, other agencies of the public; establish and maintain comprehensive records and files.

3. Special Qualifications:

Must have the ability to work well with the public under stressful situations and maintain a positive attitude.

4. Work Environment:

Incumbent of the position performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, not generally involving muscular strain, related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting. Essential functions generally require communications such as talking, hearing and seeing. Rapid work speed required in performing keyboard operations. Common eye, hand, finger, leg and foot dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and some creative.
