Pawsitive Changes: Washington City’s New Pet-Friendly Ordninace

Washington City leadership and staff are pleased to announce the recent passage of Ordinance No. 2024-07, which introduces changes regarding our beloved furry friends. Effective immediately, dogs or cats are allowed in groomed public parks, public squares, playgrounds, paved and unpaved trails and paths, athletic fields, basketball or tennis courts, pedestrian or bicycle paths, open space, and wilderness areas if the dog or cat is on a leash no more than six feet (6’) in length and under the control of a person. Dogs are allowed off-leash in a park designated as a dog park. The person in control of the dog or cat is responsible for the removal of the animal’s waste. In the next few months, updates to signage and dog waste stations will be installed in City Parks. Please note that the Dog Park mentioned is specifically designed to accommodate our four-legged companions, where they can roam and play off-leash freely. It is located at 450 South 200 E. We believe these changes will not only foster a stronger sense of community but also encourage outdoor activities and healthy living for both humans and their furry companions. Thank you for your cooperation in making Washington City an even better place to live, work, and play. For further details and to view the approved ordinance, please visit WashingtonCity.org/records.
