Council’s Corner

Neighbors In Action

Hello, my Washington City friends,

I hope you are doing well. I have lived in the same neighborhood, north of the freeway, for most of the last 46 years, except during my two-year church mission and a couple of years after Rachel and I were married. We have a lot of dear friends and neighbors surrounding us—some I have known for decades and some who are new to the area.

About a block up the street from my home, at the corner of Capilla Dr. and Quail Ridge Dr., there is a spot on the street where two gutters come together and then cross the street at the intersection. Right at the corner, there is a low spot where water, leaves, dirt, and other debris collect and never drain. It has been a problem ever since I can remember. Sometimes the mess can build up 20 to 30 feet in each direction.

A little over two years ago, we had a very nice couple from California move onto our street. Shortly after they moved in, I noticed that the problem corner was clean, and it has continued to stay clean. Every now and then, I catch our wonderful new neighbor, with a broom and dustpan in hand, cleaning up the street corner.

Just recently, the wind was blowing fiercely and knocked garbage cans over into the middle of the street. I saw another neighbor pull his truck over, hop out, and put the cans back at the curb.

I’m very grateful to my good neighbors and community members who see a need and spring into action. We, as city council members, are here to serve you. If you ever have questions, concerns, or suggestions, please reach out to one of us.

Washington City is a great place to live. Let’s keep an eye out for our neighbors and keep up the good work!
