Spring Cleaning

With spring upon us it’s time for  that spring cleaning of your yard. Here are some safety tips when working out in your yard around power lines:

  1. Locate all overhead power lines.
  2. Keep yourself and equipment 10 feet away from all overhead power lines.
  3. Do not touch anything that is in contact with the power line.
  4. Carry ladders and other equipment horizontally.
  5. Lower equipment apparatus before driving.
  6. Adjust sprinklers to not spray power lines or equipment.
  7. Stay at least 35 feet away from fallen power lines.

If an object or a vehicle does happen to make contact with a power line or pole, consider all lines to be live and dangerous. Tell others not to approach the vehicle, downed lines, or anything that may be in contact with downed lines. Warn others to stay at least 35 feet away. Stay in place or inside your vehicle unless you see fire or smoke. Call 911. In the event of fire or smoke, do not touch the ground and the vehicle at the same time. Jump from the vehicle with your feet together. Shuffle away and avoid lifting your feet. Always be aware of your surroundings and happy cleaning!
