Hydrants
If you live within the limits of Washington City then you may have noticed the fire department has been doing hydrant testing and the WCFD would like to give a little more information on what that entails.
What is hydrant testing?
Every year the fire department tests all hydrants within Washington City limits to ensure that they are in working order to be prepared for all emergencies. There are 3 caps per hydrant that need to be taken off, inspected, and all debris cleared.
How does the water system work?
Hydrants are connected through underground pipes and each section has their own pipeline. WCFD will measure the pressure of hydrants to ensure that the pipe system is in working order.
How can you help?
Per building code, all hydrants need a clearance area of 3 feet in all directions; this includes shrubbery, statues, and walls. This code was put into effect to ensure that there is enough space to correctly use the hydrant.
