Washington City — The Washington City Council unanimously approved a development agreement for Freeport West’s ARA Southwest Logistics Center Wednesday, greenlighting this transformational project. ARA will provide nearly 5 million square feet of Class A industrial warehouse and distribution space - allowing local businesses to expand, attracting new businesses, and creating well-paying jobs.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with this project that will be a game-changer for Washington City and the entire region. I am proud of the city’s partnership with Freeport West and we look forward to seeing this project come to fruition.” said Washington City Mayor Kress Staheli.
The development agreement solidified plans for infrastructure, including large investments from Dixie Power, the City of Washington, Freeport West, and other entities to develop 277 acres of raw ground. With the endorsement of the Utah Taxpayer’s Association, the taxing agencies of Washington County, most notably the School District, approved tax increment financing to assist with infrastructure costs. The project requires site stabilization, road construction, sewer, water, telecom, gas and electrical. The “pioneering” of these improvements will also pave the way for future development in the area. Freeport will begin moving dirt as soon as this coming January.
Freeport West CEO Brad Ross was in attendance at the city council meeting and was happy with the unanimous vote.“We are extremely excited to begin our first development in southern Utah. Freeport West has always led out in identifying new and emerging markets and we see Washington City as a smart investment.” said Brad.
The ARA Southwest Logistics Center will provide prime opportunities for success for manufacturers and distributors. With its proximity to the St George Regional Airport and I-15, this project is sure to become an economic asset to the entire region. Washington City’s Economic Development Director Rusty Hughes is prepared to help businesses find a home in Washington, whether they’re local and looking to expand, or out of state and looking to relocate. Washington City was twice ranked the number one small city in America to start a business and a project like ARA only adds to that excitement.
The ARA Southwest Logistics Center will be the largest single industrial project in Washington County's history. The Washington City Mayor and Council were proud to take this giant step forward, approving a development agreement, and ensuring the project becomes a reality.
