Ash Tree Farwell
For over a century, the massive ash tree on Telegraph in front of the old schoolhouse has stood watch over our little town. It’s a piece of our history, a quiet giant that’s weathered storms, droughts, and the passage of time right alongside us. Unfortunately, it’s time for us to remove our historic tree. This decision was not made lightly. After careful assessment by the city arborist and the Shade Tree Committee, it has become clear that the tree poses increasing safety risks due to insect infestation, dead branches, and structural damage. Despite our best efforts to preserve the tree, its condition has continued to decline. The declining health of the tree makes it more susceptible to falling during storms or high winds. Removing the tree now allows us to plant new, thriving greenery that will enrich our community for generations to come. We will be planting another tree in its place for Arbor Day during the Cotton Days celebrations.
