Mayor’s Message

Kindness Begins With All of Us

As I left the Washington City Community Center this morning following my effort to make my New Year’s Resolutions happen I reflected upon all the fantastic people I had just visited with. It was enjoyable to see many friends, neighbors, and associates working on their resolutions also. I do have to admit I did not get in the physical workout I had desired, but I did get in a great social hour. A new year for many of us can be a time for reflection, and to look forward to better opportunities. It really is refreshing to determine a better course for our lives if we choose to. There is a universal truth telling us that our example is far more influential and inspiring than any words of instruction, threats, or even words of encouragement. If a child lives with criticism, they learn to condemn. If a child lives with fear, they learn to be apprehensive. If a child lives with encouragement, they learn to be confident. If a child lives with acceptance, they learn to love. At all times and in all circumstances, we have the power to transform the quality of our lives. Kindness begins with all of us. Let’s do it.
