Council’s Corner

Come Enjoy The Parade

Hello, my Washington City friends. I hope you are doing well. I moved to Washington City with my parents and siblings in June of 1979 to be closer to my grandparents who lived in Washington. My Grandpa Tom was a flamboyant cowboy (think Boss Hogg from The Dukes of Hazzard) who bought and sold ranches and large tracts of land for a living. He listened to country music and always wore a larger-than-life cowboy hat. One of my favorite memories is my first Pioneer Day Parade down Telegraph St. on July 24th, just a few short weeks after we arrived in town. My siblings and I decorated my grandpa’s dune buggy with red, white, and blue streamers and American flags. I was so excited for the parade that I could hardly stand it; I had never been in a parade before, but the parade was fantastic! Grandpa in the driver’s seat with his giant hat listening to Buck Owens on his 8-track tape player, us kids throwing candy and feeling on top of the world in our new hometown making new friends and having the time of our lives! I still love parades to this day, and Washington City has some of the best parades around! I look forward to seeing all of you at our four large parades this year. On April 15th we have the Washington County Fair parade. April 27th is the Cotton Days parade. July 24th is the Pioneer Day parade, and we always love our Veterans Day parade in November. Come enjoy spending time with your neighbors and bring a bag to collect some candy. We’ll see you soon!
