Embracing Change And Opportunity For A Brighter Future

New. What does that word mean to you? For me, the word new brings feelings of freshness, opportunity, progress, and beginnings. Every new year is a chance to hit the reset button, establish priorities, and work hard to better our lives. Newness can also create feelings of uneasiness or fear. It is sometimes hard to keep an optimistic attitude through times of change or renewal. As a member of the City Council, I am optimistic that we can navigate change, bring about new projects, commerce, and infrastructure - while maintaining the culture, values, and small-town charm that make our city so great. We’ve recently have seen a lot of change. Some items we are working on in the city are preserved the 100 year old gym at the old school downtown through a remodel. We are welcoming a new WinCo store on Buena Vista. We have approved new forthcoming and much-needed commercial development in the Washington Fields. We are installing new - and replacing old - infrastructure throughout the city. I see each of these new projects as a positive enhancement for Washington City and its residents. It is our job as a City Council to ensure that we maintain a high quality life for our residents. When new projects come before the council, I always ask myself whether or not it will be a benefit to our residents. I hope we can each take this year to improve our lives and the lives of our neighbors. I wish each of you a happy new year. May we remember who we are, embrace the new, keep an optimistic attitude, and be grateful for the amazing community in which we live.
