 Environmental Study: Know The Facts

I have been approached by several citizens who are confused and concerned as to the offramp study. In an effort to add clarity and alleviate concerns about this study I would like to share with you the facts.

We recognize that we have a traffic congestion problem at exit #10. In an effort to mitigate and plan for the future growth (43,236 by 2030) in this corridor the city council has engaged in a joint study with UDOT to explore, study and identify all options that are available as improvements to the congestion. These would include but is not limited to the possible widening and reconfiguration of Buena Vista Boulevard, Connecting exit # 10 to exit #13 via Washington Parkway, Northern Corridor completion, Main Street connection to Washington Parkway, possible designated truck routes and any other ideas from citizens that may come forward during the process of the study. Mayor Neilson has organized a committee of city wide residents that will meet jointly with engineers as part of the study. Over the next months the community will be asked to participate in the study process. I highly encourage your involvement in these meetings as your input will matter.

There is also an interactive website. mp11.org an E-mail - info@mp11.org and a hot-line dedicated to this study (435) 477-6211 where citizens can communicate ideas, concerns and ask questions. This study does not bind us to any future decision but is required to get funding for any identified proposals. Example - If it’s determined that the widening of Buena Vista Blvd. is a viable option we couldn’t get state or federal funds without this study being done. Potentially a future offramp could be forced upon us without our involvement.

As your city councilman I feel a great responsibility to preserve and protect all citizens and businesses in our community and their quality of life, therefore I would consider an offramp as a very last possible option after every and all other options are vetted out. If you have thoughts or ideas that would be of benefit to this process please contact me. I respect your concerns and share with you the love for our community. Sincerely, Councilman Kurt Ivie.
