Council’s Corner

Let's Improve & Vitalize Downtown

THello, my Washington City friends, I hope all is well with you.  Some of my most fond memories from when I was a youngster was riding my bike downtown to the Burger Stop to get a burger and some fries. Other times we would go to the old Nisson’s Merc to buy a soda or an ice cream. We played catch in the park, shot hoops at the basketball court on Main Street, and enjoyed weekend youth dances in the old school gym. I love downtown Washington.  One of our priorities as a city council, under the leadership of our great Mayor, is to improve and vitalize our downtown area. We are looking at some options to attract some new development that is in keeping with our unique small-town feel. We are considering architecture that would complement our Cotton Mill, the Relief Society Hall, our old school, and city offices. Wouldn’t it be nice to have some quaint little shops, a restaurant or two, an ice cream parlor, maybe a bakery or a chocolate shop among other things? We are picturing in our minds a walkable downtown with families of all kinds being able to enjoy a wonderful downtown atmosphere.  Please let us know what your thoughts and ideas are on our downtown. What are some of the things you would like to see?  Thanks for all you do to make Washington City a great place to live!  I wish you all the best and keep up the good work!
