Reflections on Liberty & Community

I have always loved celebrating the 4th of July with family and friends. As a young girl, I remember the excitement and pure joy of holding sparklers and watching fireworks light up the sky. I still love the fireworks and sparklers, but the 4th of July is more meaningful to me now as I reflect upon the blessings of liberty and the blessing it is to live in this great nation.  On July 4, 1776, our Founding Fathers signed a document declaring fundamental principles that would come to define our nation.  “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” I honor the courageous men and women who have defended freedom and individual liberty for all. At every city council meeting in Washington City, we pray together as a community to our Creator for guidance and direction, and we stand together to pay tribute to the American flag and the symbol of freedom, liberty, and justice it represents. Let us continue to work together to protect those principles, the unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness endowed by our Creator.
