Washington Parkway

Project Description:

We are excited to announce that construction has begun for the Washington Parkway Project.  This project will construct a two lane road extension of Washington Parkway from Exit 13 to Green Springs Drive.  This project will also include crossing Mill Creek Wash.  The Contractor will start at the wash crossing by preparing the ground to start building the crossing structure.  The Contractor is also bringing in material and equipment needed to construct the project.

01/21/2020

The Washington Parkway Project is fully underway.  The Contractor has the pad for the wash crossing box structure prepared and will be working on forming the footings next.  The Contractor is also working on installing storm drain pipes at various locations along the project.  One of the most noticeable changes on the project site is the dirt grading that the Contractor has started on.  They are moving the dirt with tractors.  These tractor are very large, take a long time to stop, and do not give the operator the best view of what is around them.  For your own safety please stay far away from the construction site and especially the large equipment.

1/28/2020

The Washington Parkway Project Contractor is continuing to work on the wash crossing box structure.  They have crews laying out rebar in preparation for pouring the floor.  The Contractor is also continuing to install storm drain pipes at various locations and along the project.  One of the storm drain pipe they will be starting to install this week is 72” tall.  In an effort to improve safety and inform the public the Contractor has prepared a flyer about the project.  It also give information about who they are and how to contact them.

2/24/2020

The Contractor has finished the first phase of dirt moving and storm drain pipe installation along the length of the project. They are now working on replacing sections of waterline that run the length of the project.  The Contractor has also finished pouring the floor and walls of the concrete box structure crossing the Mill Creek wash. They will continue preparing rebar and forms and should be pouring the final concrete on the top of the structure in the coming weeks.  Once the box structure crossing Mill Creek has been completed, the Contractor will start work on final dirt moving, waterline installation, and storm drain pipe installation for the final section of the road in the area of the box structure.

Update 3/9/2020

The Contractor is continuing work on replacing sections of waterline that run along the project. They have finished one run of waterline on the east end of the project and are finishing up another run along the west end of the project.  Starting at the east end of the project and working west, the Contractor has started the final grading of the subgrade and is installing riprap ditches that will run along the side of the road. The Contractor will continue preparing the rebar and forms for the top of the box structure and should be pouring the final concrete for the top of the box structure this week. Once the box structure crossing Mill Creek has been completed, the Contractor will start work on dirt grading, waterline installation, and storm drain pipe installation for the final section of the road crossing over the box structure.

Update 3/26/2020

The Contractor is currently testing the new waterline completed on the west end of the project before they tie it into the rest of the water system. They are planning on connecting it in later this week. The Contractor is continuing their work on the final grading of the subgrade and installation of the gravel ditches that will run along the side of the road. They are working from the east to the west and have passed the halfway point. At the concrete box structure crossing the Mill Creek wash, the final concrete was poured nearly two weeks ago. The concrete will now just need to finish curing before the Contractor can start work on dirt grading, waterline installation, and storm drain pipe installation for the final section of the road crossing the box structure.

Update 4/1/2020

The Contractor has finished connecting the waterline into the water system on the west end of the project. They are continuing their work on the final grading of the subgrade and installation of the gravel ditches that will run along the side of the road. They are now starting to backfill over the box culvert and will continue working on that through this week. Once all the backfill has been placed, they will start work on the waterline and storm drain pipe installation for the final section of road crossing the box structure. They are planning on hauling in untreated base course next week to start the final grading in preparation for placing asphalt.

Update 4/21/2020

The Contractor is continuing their work in several areas along the Washington Parkway. On the east end of the job from the Buena Vista intersection to the Main Street intersection, the Contractor is finishing up the first part of the asphalt paving. From the Main Street intersection to the west end of the job, the Contractor is continuing their work on the final grading of the subbase in preparation to place un-treated base course. They are also continuing to place the riprap ditches. The Contractor has finished placing the new 16" waterline and the two fire hydrants near the box culvert. They are now testing the line before they tie it into the main system.

With the increase in work activity in preparation for paving, there are several large trucks, tractors, and other pieces of equipment driving around the job site. These trucks and pieces of equipment are very large, take a long time to stop, and do not provide the operator with the best view of what is around them. For your safety and that of the Contractor, please stay far away from the construction site and the large equipment

Update 5/5/2020

The Contractor is continuing their work on placing riprap ditches along the length of the Parkway as well as placing the riprap around the inlet and outlet of the Mill Creek Wash box culvert. They are planning on finishing both items up this week or early next week. The Contractor is also continuing to haul in and compact untreated base course (UTBC) in preparation for asphalt paving. They have placed the UTBC working west down to the box culvert and are now working on placing the last section from the box culvert to the west end of the job. The new culinary waterline placed through the box culvert section has passed its tests and has now been tied into the main water system.

Update 5/27/2020
