Back To School Safety Reminder

As students across Washington City head back to school, we’re asking all residents to help us make this season safe and successful for every child, every teacher, and every driver.

Slow Down in School Zones:

Obey posted speed limits and stay alert for flashing lights.

Watch for crossing guards, buses, and the unpredictable movements of excited students.

Pedestrian Awareness Matters:

Children may cross mid-block or between parked cars—drive with extra caution.

Give pedestrians the right of way, and avoid distractions while driving.

Bus Safety is Non-Negotiable:

Stop for buses with flashing red lights—it’s not just courteous, it’s the law.

Keep a safe distance from loading and unloading zones.

Heads Up, Devices Down:

Whether you’re walking or driving, put away your distractions. Safety requires attention.

We’re Committed to Protecting Our Youth. Washington City officers will maintain a strong presence around schools during the first weeks back. Our goal is proactive visibility and open communication, not citations. We’re here to support students, staff, and families.

Let’s partner to make this school year a safe, bright, and promising one. Questions or concerns? Reach out—your voice helps shape a safer community.
